SEO ISN’T HARD

Before you cross the road, what do you do? The rule of thumb is to check both sides of the road before stepping on it.

If you wanted to buy something luxurious, would you only buy it after checking your budget first?

It doesn't matter if I'm training a one-off SEO client or working with a whole marketing team; I hear the same thing over & over again.

"We don't like the website, so we plan to change it quickly."

Have you checked the data behind the website before making any drastic changes?

  • Does it rank well on Google?

  • How many visitors does the website get daily?

  • How many leads convert into sales?

  • What are the sources of those leads?

  • Where are they coming from?

It is the kind of questions I would love to ask 90% of the clients I help get out of an SEO pickle if they asked me those questions but guess what? In response to feedback posted on social media by a friend of a friend about the website, they have already decided that it is outdated.

In their haste to find a web designer near them, they search on Google for some local firms. Your brand-new website looks lovely, but those inquiries you used to get from Southend have since died off, haven't they?

They then come to me (Dan) in a panic.

Having decided they no longer needed that scruffy old page, they ordered the designer to delete it from the website: no redirects and no way for their potential customers from Southend to find them anymore.

Just remember, a web designer does just that, they design. A web designer can rarely audit a website properly

Their competitor now has a brand new client base.

What could have prevented this SEO nightmare? A simple audit!

It could have prevented months of headaches by simply performing a basic SEO audit that anyone can do. Merely looking at the traffic history within Google Analytics, checking the Webmaster tools (search console) and researching any websites that reference those pages would have prevented everything from happening in the first place.

Just remember, a web designer does just that, they design. A web designer can rarely audit a website properly.

I see this issue on a nearly daily basis! If you are looking at your website and think it's a bit scruffy, let's chat, I can do an audit for you or train you how to do DIY SEO to reduce your outsourcing costs. It will save you a fortune, trust me!
