Being Online is ‘IN’ for UK Consumers (Infographic)

The evolution of the Internet has revolutionized the way in which companies can appeal to their target audience, thanks to the wonders of the World Wide Web.

Online visibility is essential in today’s web-driven market: 85 per cent of consumers search for local businesses online, but 45 per cent of UK’s small business owners don’t have a website or blog for their company.   An additional three-fourths of both small and medium businesses DO NOT have a mobile website. For all you math majors, It’s not hard to calculate the scale of missed opportunities across the board for small businesses! Let’s take a look at some other interesting, web presence stats.

The Internet Is “In”

UK consumers love to surf…..the ‘net, that is! According to the Office of National Statistics, 33 million UK adults accessed the internet every day in 2012 — more than double the 16 million in 2006! During the first half of 2013, 43.5 million adults in the UK  — or 86 per cent — have used the Internet via mobile phones, desktops, tablets.

88 per cent of UK men are regular Internet users versus 84 per cent of UK women who are regular Internet users. Sending and receiving emails is the most popular online activity for UK users, at 73 per cent, and 48 per cent of UK users actively use a social networking site.

On average, UK internet users spend 17 hours per week online! 53 per cent of UK users browse the internet on mobile handsets, using smartphones, tablets and game consoles.

According to recent research conducted by Analytics {{seo}}, 47 per cent of all business websites have none or very basic levels of SEO, and an additional 70 per cent of companies with less than 50 employees have none or very basic levels of SEO.  Furthermore, 74 per cent have no basic website analytics software for tracking site visits and 0.6 per cent of business websites are under construction.

12 per cent of all business websites are not indexed in any search engine and 3 per cent of all business websites could be considered to have advanced levels of SEO.  Surprisingly, 82 per cent of all businesses have no HTML sitemap, 75 per cent of all businesses have no XML sitemap and 69 per cent of all businesses have no Robots.txt file configured.
